THESIS
STATEMENT

Tired of screaming for my rights, for others safety, and for the planet, this body of work explores a personal and societal anger towards the industrialized world. With an interest in environmentalism and ecology, I learned how to criticize human behavior through our relationships with each other and with Mother Nature. How we, as a society, treat others speaks volumes about humans’ role in the environment. I started envisioning a utopia where nature beats the industrial, fueled by feeling crushed and silenced in the shadow of the greedy man: a feeling shared between both nature and myself.

This behavior of ignorance towards each other in our communities correlates to how society has and will continue to treat the natural world that inhabited Earth before us. Through the personification of nature and reversing the roles, I invite people to reflect on how we would feel if our damage to nature is done to us instead.

Research

This body of work originated through social and environmental issues, learned through ecology courses, social media, and personal experiences. From there I researched 4 main environmental crimes: over-consumption, pollution, deforestation, and poaching, all of which are results from humanity's greed and industrialized society, where people of power and great wealth can turn a blind eye towards pesticides, mass destruction of land, or pollution for their own personal gain.

Experimentation & Process

3D Render/Mockup

Character Sculpting

Using programs like Blender and Zbrush, I sculpted each character by starting with a base mesh of basic shapes.

Starting with basic spheres and rectangles allows me to see the general shape while still having the freedom to make quick changes before I get too far into the sculpt.

Much of my experimentation was in this step. I wanted to get more experience with making armatures and rigs for my characters as well as 3D print them using the Elegoo Mars 3 Resin Printer.

Rigging and 3D Printing

This step taught me a lot about the cleanliness of my typology which is useful when attaching an armature with automatic weights and when slicing a a file. I used Lychee Slicer when preparing my prints.

Gallery Set and Install

One of the biggest challenges was how to transform the space to feel overgrown. I landed on using recycled cardboard and faux moss to make moss patches.
I then experimented with sisal rope and The Great Stuff Door and Window Foam to replicate vines to hang around the space.
